NEW FROM SPENCER STUDIO

My talented friend Lauren Spencer King just updated her Spencer Studio etsy shop with seven new pieces. She takes vintage photographs and extends the scene with a detailed drawing. Her work is so unique and beautiful. I urge you to check out her shop. A sneak peak of her charming Silver Lake apartment was also featured yesterday on Design Sponge {photographed by my friend Kate}.

DRAWINGS BY MIKE MILLS

One of my most cherished gifts over Christmas was this book given to me by my boyfriend. It is a book of drawings from one of my favorite films of last year, Beginners. There are so many things to love about this movie, like Christopher Plummer or getting to see the LA I know and love, but my favorite part had to be the drawings. The director, Mike Mills drew all of them himself (he happens to also be an artist and graphic designer) and they are interspersed through out the film. If you haven't seen it, you must rent it immediately. I am sure you will fall in love with it as much as I did.

Any fun plans this weekend? Tonight we are going to dinner and then to see the film Pina, which is a conceptual dance movie. It looks so incredibly beautiful, I can't wait.
Happy Weekend! xo

SNAPSHOTS FROM LAUREN'S STUDIO PARTY

My friend Lauren of the sphinx and the milky way and Spencer Studio had a fun all girls get together this past weekend in her art studio. Everyone had to bring a mix cd of their creation, one for each guest. Such an amazing idea, right?! Not only did I adore spending time with all ten lovely ladies {including lilly and kate}, but I got to take home a bunch of new music. I think this should be a regular event.

*make sure to head over to lauren's blog for more photos of the party- including a few of me!

SPENCER STUDIO

My friend Lauren of the sphinx & the milky way recently launched Spencer Studio, a site showcasing the art and design she has been commissioned to do for weddings. She specializes in watercolor, but you might remember her incredible sculptures here. Lauren is an insanely talented artist and I just adore her work. She even hand painted the hawk feather that lives above Sweet Thing. Her website shows some of her previous work as well as invitation and save the date ideas. She used some of her friend's names as "the couples" and James and I are lucky enough to be included {we're the 3rd one down}! So no, we are not actually engaged. If you are a bride looking for a personal and unique invite then look no further...

ROY LICHTENSTEIN AT THE GAGOSIAN NYC

I am having so much fun in NYC, minus the the airline loosing my bag for the first 13 hours and the extreme heat. I will never get used to the humidity here, or at least my hair wont.

The boyfriend and I went to the Gagosian Gallery the other day to check out an exhibit of his favorite artist, Lichtenstein. The exhibit is running through July 30th so if you happen to be in NYC, there is still time to see it. It's a collection of still lives, which to be honest, I had no idea he had so many. We snuck in a few instax photos while we were there and I am thrilled with the result. I had to share...

VINTAGE PAINT BY NUMBERS

I love the kitsch factor of vintage paint-by-numbers. They are a perfect way to add art to your home without breaking the bank. My clever mother turned me on to them years ago when she found one on ebay, cut it in half and placed it in two frames side by side. It now sits happily in my home...
Both Etsy and Ebay are great sources for vintage paint by numbers. Here is a sprinkling of what I found...
Clockwise from top left: Boy and Lake $22, Sailboat $26, Two Deers $29, Horses starting bid $9.95, Rustic Wilderness starting bid $24.50, Vintage Roses $6.50

Claudia designs original movie posters of some of her favorite movies. She is a genius with color and graphics. All of her posters come out of pure imagination and she has fantastic taste in movies. You must check out her Etsy store to see for yourself. Here are some of my favorites..
