HOW PINTERESTING

Have you joined Pinterest yet? It has become a tool I rely on for blogging, decorating my home and just general inspiration. I love looking through my pins and finding common themes. It tells me a little about my mood or what I've been finding "pinteresting". My pins of late have been quite romantic, don't you think?--

Lately I find myself very drawn to classic and timeless fashion. Pieces that can be mixed and matched a thousand different ways and can be easily dressed up with a brightly colored lip and some sparkly jewels.

This past Saturday, my friend's Jacqui, Holley and I drove up to the Santa Ynez Valley for a little wine tasting adventure. It's only a 2 & 1/2 hour drive from LA, but just far away enough that it still feels like a getaway. We only went for one night, but it felt so nice to get some girl time in and be surrounded by so much beautiful scenery. We stayed in Solvang, which is the Danish capitol of America. It happened to be the centennial and the Danish Days Festival while we were there, so we made sure to take in a little Danish culture. In our short time away we visited a handful of wineries, had our fair share of pino noir, and ended our night at The Hitching Post {you might remember it from the movie Sideways}. Now that I know how easy a drive it is, I hope to make it back very soon.

WANTED. AUTUMN HOME

Here are a few things I am loving for the home this fall...

Mustard Suzani Napkin $12
Moroccan Wedding Blanket $350

Fall is just around the corner, can you feel it? I'm sure for some of you {not in LA} fall weather has already begun. Lucky! I have already ordered this coat from ASOS in an attempt to will colder temps this way.

Any fun plans for the weekend? I'm going wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley with one of my girlfriends. Just for one night, but I am so looking forward to tasting delicious wine and having some girl time! I'll make sure to take photos and tell you all about it next week. Happy Weekend! xx

MASCULIN + FEMININ

Have you been keeping up with NY fashion week? I've been live streaming all the shows I possibly can {love that they're starting to do that more and more} and checking Glitter Guide for all the fashion week latest.

Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are waking up on Saturday morning, getting into bed with my mom and watching Style with Elsa Klensch. Does anyone remember that show? Each episode would feature a couple runways shows and a behind the scenes look at a fashion designer. Things haven't changed much, because there are few things that get my heart-a-racing like seeing beautiful clothing come down the runway.

WANTED. AUTUMNAL SHADES

1. Uma Cable-Knit Marino Sweater $250
2. Jagz Midi Velvet Skirt $400
3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Faux Fur Trench $500
4. Hutton Tie Trouser $168
5. Charmed Ring Set $28
6. Arrowdrop Bracelet $28
7. The Perfect Pennyloafer $168
8. Adrianna Satin Pumps $275
9. Marc by Marc Jacobs Chevron Velvet Clutch $280
10. The Leather Transport Tote $148

Right now I am drawn to anything in the tone of falling autumn leaves. I just can't get enough rust, burnt orange and cognac. I am an earth sign after all. These colors feel so rich and comforting. They also look so chic paired with brights like cranberry or teal. What colors will you be rocking this fall?

SNAPSHOTS FROM LAUREN'S STUDIO PARTY

My friend Lauren of the sphinx and the milky way and Spencer Studio had a fun all girls get together this past weekend in her art studio. Everyone had to bring a mix cd of their creation, one for each guest. Such an amazing idea, right?! Not only did I adore spending time with all ten lovely ladies {including lilly and kate}, but I got to take home a bunch of new music. I think this should be a regular event.

*make sure to head over to lauren's blog for more photos of the party- including a few of me!

LATELY

This week was extra special because it was my birthday week. I ate indulgent food, I listened to a few of my favorite bands at FYF Fest and I went to a fun pre fashion night out party at Soho House. It was full of smiles and here is a photographic look at why...

  • A perfect birthday brunch with my guy at Gjelina- Crispy fried eggs with romesco, prosciutto, arugula and lemon and strawberry rhubarb crisp with amaretto ice cream.

  • Surprise balloons and a hand drawn card from Miss Lauren waiting in front of my house on my birthday.
  • A homemade pop up card from the boyfriend. He loves to make me cards and I treasure every one of them.

  • Memories from our amazing day at FYF Fest. Broken Social Scene, The Cults, Future Islands and Glass Candy were some of my favorites.

  • A gift off my birthday wishlist from my sister Merry. I have a feeling this will be an everyday ring.
  • Opening up the mailbox to find the latest Lucky Magazine. I can't wait to flip through all the cozy fall fashion.

Any fun plans for the weekend? A bunch of my friends will be picnicking and watching A Rebel Without a Cause at the Cinespia screening tomorrow. Have you ever been? It is one of my favorite things to do in LA. On Sunday I will be going to a girls get together where we have to bring a mix cd for each guest. Such a fun idea! In fact, I better start putting it together. Happy Weekend! xx

SWEET STYLE | THE HEADLANDS

While the boyfriend and I were up in Marin we checked out a place that was high on my list- the headlands. I had seen photos of the center for the arts {here} and had already fallen in love with the cracked walls, tin ceilings, exposed beams and Edison bulbs. Seeing it in person I was overwhelmed with how incredible a place it was. The views of the ocean, the rolling hills and the forrest combined with the beauty of the building felt almost dream like. I highly recommend a trip up there next time you are in Marin. I already want to go back...

B&W KITCHENS

1/2/3/4/5/6

I can't seem to stop thinking about kitchens. Perhaps because fall is on it's way and there is something about the colder months that makes me want to cook at home rather then go out. Kitchens are also the center of our modern day homes. People always seem to flock there. I love the modern and somewhat rustic simplicity of a b&w kitchen. I think If I were to have the chance to design my own kitchen I'd like it to be mostly white with some black accents, or maybe even black cabinets like Jenna Lyon's kitchen {photo #4}. What about you, how would your dream kitchen look?

A DAY IN THE BAY

OK, these photos weren't all taken in one day, more like two. They are from last weekend in Marin. One of the days we went to Berkeley to see one of James' sister's for an early dinner. The east bay's adorable craftsman's and shops feel so neighborhood-y- something I wish there was a little more of in Los Angeles. On the next day, we got Kumamoto oysters and PranQster's at Hog Island. I can't stop thinking about the kumamoto's light and buttery flavor. Later we went to see James' other sister in Petaluma for lunch. I fell in love with the historical victorian homes and lush gardens. To end our day, we drove to the headlands- one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We explored the center for the arts, a place I had seen in photos and knew was right up my ally. We ended our full day of exploring the bay by walking around the woods near the golden gate bridge. The sun was setting and the light through the trees was cinematic and gorgeous. All in all it was quite a full weekend. Not unlike this one.

How was your holiday weekend? Mine was full of indulgent food and awesome music, two of my favorite things. My birthday was very low key, but perfect. I promise to share more soon!

BIRTHDAY THOUGHTS

My 29th birthday is this Sunday the 4th and as usual it falls on Labor Day weekend. It can be a tricky birthday to have since most of my friends tend to be out of town for the holiday. This year I was feeling very uninspired as to having any sort of party. I know you understand. It's hard to organize a party that is solely celebrating you. Of course when it comes to other people's birthdays I LOVE to celebrate. This Saturday just happens to be FYF Fest in downtown LA and it is exactly what I want to do. A bunch of our favorite bands are playing- we'll dance our hearts out, drink and be merry. On my actual birthday the boy has to work, but he will be out in time to make me a few 19th Centuries and take me to dinner at Sun of a Gun.

On the topic of birthdays, I realize they can be a strange time for people. We put so much pressure on them, like they should be the best day of the year. In my experience, the days you plan on being the best days usually aren't and the days you didn't expect to be, have a way of surprising you. Another thing you are faced with on your birthday is the dreaded- getting older. I have never been someone who morned the loss of my early or mid twenties. I'm actually thrilled to be one year closer to 30 because lets face it, my 20's have been all about career changes, heartbreak, figuring it out the hard way, getting to know myself and what I want. Only in the last two years has life really started to make sense. If only 29 year old Jessie could go back to 20 year old Jessie and tell her that it's all going to be ok, that life gets better, I promise. I'd also tell her to start blogging sooner.

Happy weekend my dearest, sweetest things! I hope it's full of all kinds of unexpected fun. xx

FEELING IT FOR FALL

Just as I suspected LA's temperate summer was too good to be true. I heard it was insanely hot this past weekend and I couldn't be happier we decided to get away when we did. Even though September tends to be one of our hottest months, I can't help but dream of cozier fall days full of leather accents, wool sweaters and muted earth tones.

SNAPSHOTS FROM THE RANCH

We are back from our lovely long weekend in Marin and I am equal parts happy to be home and sad to not get to wake up to this beauty every morning. These are photographs of James' families ranch. Everything was in bloom and and the air smelled deliciously sweet. In case you are curious here are my photos from the last time we were there in June.

This trip was very last minute, as we decided early friday morning, to leave the same day. It ended up being quite a busy weekend, probably busier then we had expected- staying at the ranch in Point Reyes, seeing friends in Santa Cruz, J's sister in Berkeley and another sister in Petaluma. I have lots more photos to share, my favorites probably being from The Headlands- a magical place I fell deeply in love with.

POST 42

Last week I told you about a really awesome new store on La Brea called Post 42. This week I thought I would share a few of my photos of the inside. Don't you just love the look of it? The styling is perfection down to the handkerchief tied around Niko {the shopkeeper's} neck.

How was your weekend? If you follow me on twitter, you already know the boyfriend and I decided to take a last minute trip up to Marin. James' family is there and he currently has two, yes two pregnant sisters. We were hoping one of the sisters would have her baby while we were in town, but sadly she didn't. Oh well, it was a wonderful jam packed weekend with lots of family time and socializing. We are driving back to LA today and I can't wait to get home and look through all of our photos.
