SWEET STYLE. ECHO PARK

James and I headed to our stylish friend Caleb's abode last week to snap a few shots.  He not only has a wardrobe to envy, but he's gotta killer roof deck and an old fashioned claw foot tub {swoon!}. It has been chilly in LA these days so I wore my cozy Zara sale find. Caleb put on his coat too and we fantasized about being in a band {see last photo}...

BLUE JEAN BABY. 70'S STYLE

1970's inspired denim was another trend all over the  spring runways {like the swoon worthy Derek Lam show}. Bell-bottoms and high-waisted jeans are a trend I can totally get behind {like here and here}. Anything to look like my super chic mother from the early 70's.

GOLD DUST WOMAN. 70'S STYLE

The 70's ruled the spring runways this year- everything from bohemian to disco. I will be dedicating the next few fashion posts to the decade, starting with  bohemian. Wondering how to wear the trends?- Pick one or two pieces and mix them with more modern ones. You don't want to look like your going to a costume party. Or try putting your hair up in a top knot {like the Rebecca Taylor runway} instead of straight locks for a more modern look.

SICK DAY

I had all these grand plans to drive around yesterday and take photos of sweet things for my final posts of 2010. Well wouldn't you know it, I got sick instead. I guess I can't complain since I happen to be at home with my family and there is nothing better then having your mother to take care of you. Since I've been in bed all day, I haven't got much to share except some lovely gifts Santa brought me that have literally not left my body until I took them off to photograph for you...

SWEET THINGS

A new year is quickly approaching and instead of sharing my latest fashion or home design obsessions this last week of 2010, I thought I'd share some photographs of "sweet things" that put a smile on my face make me feel thankful...

  • the sky in los angeles after the rain stopped

  • the rose that greets me at my front door

  • the way the light hit this little patch of grass and clovers

  • the intoxicating smell of an orange blossom
  • this perfect little feather on a dirty downtown sidewalk

  • the deep purple of a fresh olive and the dusty green of the leaves

until tomorrow my sweets xx

    HOW TO. WAVY HAIR

You may have noticed I wear my hair wavy most of the time. My hair is wavy naturally, but trust me it looks nothing like that. It is that weird in-between wavy/straight/frizzy, which is so rarely cute. I few people have asked me how I do my hair, so I thought I'd turn it in to a how-to. It is super easy once you get the hang of it. I can do it in 5-10 minutes and be out the door...

What you'll need: Brush, Volumizing Spray or Mousse, Hair Clips, Curling Iron {1 inch- 1.5 inch}, Hair Spray
    ***{I use a 1.5 inch Conair Curling Iron, John Frieda Vomumizing Mousse or Spray and a chopstick to make the perfect middle part}

    1. Start out by putting volumizing spray or mousse in your wet hair and blow it dry. The mousse/spray gives hair more body and helps the waves stay.
     2. Part your hair in the middle and separate the top half of your hair and pin it up. This is to make it easier to curl the bottom pieces.
     3. Start with the back sections and wrap your hair around the curling iron barrel away from your face. Leave the curling iron unclamped and hold the end of your hair away from the iron.
     4. Now unwind the iron. The hair should look like this.
     5. Continue curling each section of hair until every section is curled. Remember to curl away from the face and do not use the clamp.
    6. Once finished curling every section, straighten bangs with hair straightener and brush them out. ***Obviously this step is just for the ladies with bangs.
    7. Spray hair with hair spray and scrunch curls with your hands a little to mess them up slightly. You don't want them looking too perfect.
    8. It should look something like this. Hope this helps! Good luck!

    STYLE ICON. ALEXA CHUNG

I think Alexa takes the cake this year for the most fashionable lady in the land. Le sigh. From her stylish collaboration with Madewell to her enviable slightly messy two toned hair; Alexa is the "it girl" everyone wants to be. I mean the girl has a handbag named after her, that is seriously big time. She is a pro at the undone, vintage, girly meets tomboy look everyone craves. She is surely an inspiration and icon of our time...

    A SWEET WEDDING. THE HEADLANDS

I came across the dreamiest wedding on Green Wedding Shoes the other day and I have not been able to stop thinking about all the lovely details. The feather cutouts are my favorite- Swoon! Might have to steal that idea for a party or something. She even has the ornaments I bought from Kate's Paperie displayed. She is a girl after my own heart...

NEW YEARS EVE. WHAT TO WEAR

Before you know it, it'll be time to pull out your sparkles and ring in the new year! I can be a tad sentimental, so I love what new years represents; Looking back over the past year, thinking about all that's changed and all you want to change in the next. Remembering all the blessings that have come your way, or more importantly all the cute outfits you will wear. OK, totally kidding. I am trying to segue here. Wondering what to wear this New Years Eve? Look no further, I have 5 outfits ready for a night on the town...
