WANTED. OXFORDS

I love checking out the latest recipes The Jewels of New York have posted on their site. You can be assured the styling will be gorgeous and the food delicious. Although this time all I could think about were the oxfords Lisel (one of the co-founders) had on in the pictures...

Oh the food looks amazing too...

So I went on the hunt for tan two tone oxfords, also known as spectators, wingtips or saddle shoes. Here is what I found...

CHALK ISN'T JUST FOR BOARDS

I have a chalkboard wall in my kitchen and absolutely love it. It is such an inexpensive way to add visual interest to a wall. Chalkboard paint will only run you about $10 for a gallon. I suggest painting with magnetic primer first so your chalk wall can double as a magnetic board. There is chalkboard spray paint too for those of you wanting to paint an object or piece of furniture. Here are some of my favorite chalk walls...

These are inspirational. If only I was that patient and talented...

Other Uses...

The slate cheese plate above makes your cheese display look instantly chic and Parisienne. I also love the idea of painting furniture or doors. If you don't want to commit to a whole wall, there are chalkboard decals like the one above that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

DESERT STYLE. HOME

After coming back from my weekend in the Desert, it got me wanting a mix of southwestern, Native American and mid-century items for the home. Inspired by the lovely Ace Hotel...

Read This...
I know they should pay me for all of The Ace love I have been blogging about. But I had to share that one of my favorite sites Jetsetter.com, a site that puts up hotel flash sales is putting up The Ace Hotel Palm Springs today at 3pm! Don't miss it! This already reasonably priced hotel will be even more reasonable. But you have to sign up with Jetsetter first.

Happy Weekend Everyone! xx

SWEET STYLE. INSTANT GRATIFICATION

I am kind of in love with our instant photos of Palm Springs. There is something so fun about instant photos, photos that are one of a kind, and cant be duplicated. On our last morning in town we went to brunch at The Parker (a hotel designed by Jonathan Adler). There were so many photo opportunities, but I sadly ran out of film. We did manage to get a few pretty great photos though. On our drive back to LA we discovered this deserted airport. It made for some pretty awesome photos. Here are the best of the bunch...

Hello everyone, this set of photos from my Palm Springs vacation were taken with my beautiful Canon digital. I have lots of fuji instax photos to scan and I am waiting on my Holga photos to be developed. In the mean time, here are my digital photos of The Ace. I had so much fun roaming the property taking pictures. Palm Springs is hot this time of year, but so very lovely...

 I want to go back!
Fuji Instax photos are coming next. xx

A SWEET WEEKEND. SNEAK PEAK

This weekend was absolutely perfect. My boyfriend and I had so much fun at The Ace Hotel Palm Springs! We didn't want to leave. We also went a little crazy with the picture taking. I have more photos then I can count. It will take me a few days to filter through them all, but I promise they will not disappoint. Here is a sneak peak of our room 313...

More to come...

Z GALLERIE

Hello my loves. I am off to The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs for the weekend. I am bringing three cameras. Is that too many? I want to spend the weekend taking pictures and sitting by the pool. It's supposed to be in the 90's! Yikes, that's hot! I think this trip will produce some fun photos, so make sure to check back next week.

On another note, I was checking out the Z Gallerie website yesterday and stumbled apon something that excited me way too much...They now carry that gorgeous White Resin Deer Head from my post "The Year of the Deer" in a smaller 16" size for $49.95! Yeah, I have to have it.

I started finding all kinds of other cute home accessories on their site, so I thought I would share the love...

Twist Bench, $149.95

NYC. SNEAK PEAK

I would like to start by saying thank you to the lovely Katy Shelor for being a guest blogger on Sweet Thing while I was gone. Great post Katy!

So I am back from a whirl wind of a trip to NYC. It was so fun and flew by! I have some sweet photos to share with you, although I don't have time today to post them all, so I thought I would start with my Fuji Instax photos...

The end.

I SHOOT PEOPLE FOR A LIVING

I am off to NYC today! I have never been to NY in the Spring, but I hear it's gorgeous. The weather is supposed to be perfect while I am there. I cant wait to roam the streets with my Fuji Instax and stop by The Ace Hotel. I am actually going to NYC for work purposes, which is very exciting. I am going to photograph statues of dogs and cats that have been painted by very talented artists, to be auctioned off at a fundraiser. This is being organized by Pet Health Store, my boyfriend's family's store. In honor of my profession, I thought I would round up some of my favorite photography inspired housewares and fashion...

Vintage Camera Butter Dish, $28

Classic Holga Hand Towels, $20 for 2

I recently noticed a Lomography Store opened on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. It looks pretty dreamy! I could spend way too much time in there, buying accessories for my Holga. I can't wait to check it out. Look at how cute...

Happy Weekend Everyone!

A SWEET WEDDING. KATE AND JESSE

I was thrilled to come across my dear friend's Kate and Jesse's wedding on Snippet and Ink today. And guess what? I am in one of the photos! Well, the back of me is. It was such a gorgeous wedding. Not surprising since the bride and groom have impeccable taste. Every detail was just perfectly thought out. The stunning photos where taken by the talented Amy and Stuart. You should definitely check out the full post, but here is a sneak peak...
{there I am in the short purple dress!}

They look so happy. What an incredible moment!
Everything about this is gorgeous, the couple, the scenery, the light. Sigh!

SWEET STATIONARY

RedStamp.com has been my go to place for all things stationary for sometime. I came across it while searching for stylish business cards a few years back. I went with the Williams design in a charcoal gray...
I couldn't be happier with the look of them. Simple, modern and chic...

I am also a fan of the Large Modern Initials Card. The color combination is perfect...

Redstamp.com also has a super stylish selection of gift wrap. I love a thoughtfully wrapped gift. Sometimes it means more than the gift its self, the attention to detail. Mother's day is coming up, a perfect excuse to spend a little extra time wrapping. Here are some of my favorites...

The wrapping paper is $7 for two sheets.

How cute are these file folders?! $14 for 6.
Or this faux bois pencil holder? $6. This site make me want to redesign my whole desk area, or at least start using my desk.

PRETTY PLACES. LOUISIANA

I came across this gorgeous house while searching through Flickr photos the other day. I love everything about it. Not surprising that the person who lives here is a designer/photographer. It was a work in progress, kind of like my house. I love when people can see the potential in a home. It's more fun to make it your own anyway...

Such a sweet house. Love the bright orange planters.

The Madeline Weinrib camel zig zag rug is amazing. Supposedly she found it on ebay. Lucky! Also loving the oversized starburst mirror. It looks incredible over the fireplace.

A real Eames molded rocking chair goes for around $500. Here is a link to something similar off ebay for $149. Pair that with a Ludde sheepskin from Ikea for $39.99.

The wall of plates looks similar to Kelly Wearstler's design at The Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. This is such an inexpensive way to make a fabulously chic wall.  You could find plates on ebay or at garage sales. I would love this in my house. I wish I had more wall space!

The all white kitchen is so crisp. The Saarinen table with the tole chandelier above is a great juxtaposition. A real Saarinen table goes for thousands, here is a link to a similar table from CB2 for $199. You can find tole chandeliers on ebay for $100-up.

This clothesline idea is so sweet! I have something similar in my house. Why frame everything? I like to mix some framed items with some unframed.

The master bedroom is perfection. I adore the paint color and the pops of color.

The daughter's room. Love the monogram pillows! I never would think to layer rugs like this, so creative.

Go check out the homeowner's blog for other ideas and inspiration.

URBAN OUTFITTERS. HOME

We all know and love Urban Outfitters for their mid-priced hipster wear, but did you know that online they have a super stylish collection of items for the home? There are so many lust-worthy finds I had trouble narrowing it down...

This wallpaper is self adhesive and can easily be removed and reapplied! Now you can wallpaper your room without the commitment.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Growing up in Ojai, I am no stranger to earth friendly fashion or recycling. My mother has used reusable grocery bags since I was a child and I make it my mission to always carry a reusable bag with me at all times. Our good family friend Lisa Foster of One Bag at a Time, makes fantastic reusable bags in tons of cute colors. I happen to be the opening website image, so go check it out! You can get 10 bags for $11.99 and they will throw in a purple bag (like the one I am carrying) for free...

POSTER GIRL

My boyfriend recently turned me on to the fabulous Etsy store Claudiavarosio. Yes I have succeeded in getting him hooked on Etsy, and I am glad I did. Claudia designs original movie posters of some of her favorite movies. She is a genius with color and graphics. All of her posters come out of pure imagination and she has fantastic taste in movies. You must check out her Etsy store to see for yourself. Here are some of my favorites..

I am in love with The Birds poster!!!

RACHEL BILSON STYLE

Rachel Bilson has that effortless style we all wished we had. She has a way of always looking fashionable and put together but not too put together. I sometimes struggle with that combination, that slightly undone look. She has said before that she dresses her self for events. If that's true then she truly is a style icon of our time. I thought I would round up my favorite Rachel Bilson looks for inspiration...
Updo's can look a little formal, but this one is done right in that slightly messy, I did it myself kind of way.
I am in love with this menswear look. Could she be any cuter in that bowler hat?!

Love the super straight hair and the middle part.
And seriously gold lame' never looked so good!

Whether she is running errands...

Walking her dog...
Or walking the red carpet...

You can be sure she will always look perfectly chic...
The white Dior dress is AMAZING! I think it's my favorite.
Rachel is so cool, she turned the black Chanel dress backwards. Yup, seriously!
