BEHIND THE BLOG // STYLE ME PRETTY LIVING

A few weeks ago I was photographed {on film} by the insanely talented Bryce Covey for Style Me Pretty Living's Behind the Blog feature. As a photographer it can be difficult to give up control and let someone photograph you, but after looking through Bryce's gorgeous portfolio, I knew I'd be in good hands. I never get to be photographed in action, or with my cameras, so it was quite a treat for me and I will cherish these photos always. SMP Living launched a few months ago and It is packed with beautiful house tours, party ideas and even fashion roundups. Of course my favorite feature is Behind the Blog and I am thrilled to be part of it. I hope you'll check out my interview as well as many more photos from our shoot.

BLOGOVERSARY

I can hardly believe it, but over the weekend Sweet Thing turned three. This blog has completely changed my life in ways I never could have dreamed and it would be nothing without all of you darling readers. I can't thank you enough for coming back here day after day. Here's to many more years. Now I'm going to eat my mini cake. Cheers!

THE HOMEGROWN COLLECTIVE

A friend of mine recently told me about The Homegrown Collective, which is a subscription service that delivers a themed "green box" to your door every month. Each box is seasonal and promotes a self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. I do my best to support a more eco-conscious way of life {I am from Ojai after all} and I thought I would share it with you. Such a cool idea right? I recently received the aptly named "How Sweet It Is" box which was filled with local honey, bee pollen, rose hips, organic essential oils and all the tools and instructions to make your own lip balm, salves and elixirs. I think this subscription would make such a nice gift, whether it be for yourself or a friend. Check out their website for more information and a peak at past boxes.

LATELY

Thank goodness the weekend is here. Not that the weekend really has any meaning as a freelancer, but I do plan on attempting to catch up on pretty much everything. I apologize for the the radio silence over here lately. I've been juggling lots of work {can't complain} and putting the finishing touches on my breakout session for Lucky FABB. I'm starting to get to that point where I just can't do it all. An intern of some sort is feeling inevitable, which is exciting but also terrifies me. I know my fears as a freelance artist are quite common. I'm sure many of you struggle with the business side of your careers. When do you finally give in, release a little control and say I just can't do this alone? I'm about to start reading Lean In for my book group and feel like it couldn't come at a better time. In the mean time, here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

SWEET. SWEETER. SWEETEST.

Sweet. West Elm Striped Napkin Set
Sweeter. West Elm Mosaic Tile Coffee Table
Sweetest. West Elm Crosby Armchair

Well, I had such a fun time in Santa Barbara for my friend's bachelorette. Getting out of LA for even one night was such a treat. On my way out of town I stopped at SQIRL with G&B to grab a coffee for the road, and lucky me I ran in to the lovely Anne Sage. She snapped a few photos of my latte and my favorite new shoes- check it out over on her blog

HAPPY WEEKEND

This week has been crazy to say the least. Practically every minute of every day has been scheduled, both night and day and it's going to continue through the weekend. Luckily It's all fun stuff- like photo shoots, art openings, concerts and even a wine tasting bachelorette party in Santa Barbara. But, come monday I'm sure I'll be ready to sleep for a hundred years. Isn't it funny how everything seems to happen all at once in life? It's rarely perfectly spaced out, whether it's work or social. What about you- what have you got planned for this fine spring weekend?

LUCKY FABB WEST

I am very excited to announce that I will be speaking at the year's Lucky FABB conference on April 4th-5th in LA! I will be teaching an hour long breakout session on blog photography with fellow photographer Kimberly Genevieve. We will be covering everything you need to know about getting beautiful images for your blog, whether it be style shots or vignettes. We'll give you all the professional tips and tricks, so that your blog stands out. Also side note- Drew Barrymore is one of the keynotes! It's going to be so fun. I sure hope to see you there!

If you would like to attend, e-mail FABBTicketing@gmail.com with your full name and blog URL with the subject “FABB West Tickets”. Lucky will go through each entry and be in touch.

LATELY

Luckily this last week things have mellowed out just a bit. I've had slightly more time to finish up photo projects and sneak in a little time with friends as well. I've started taking daily walks around the Silver Lake reservoir, which is so necessary since I spend so much time at my computer. The weather can't seem to make up it's mind these days, but I prefer it that way. One day I get to wear my Hunter wellies and the next I'm pulling out a summer dress. It sure keeps things interesting. I've got quite a busy weekend ahead full of celebrations. I'm quite looking forward to it. What about you, do you have anything fun planned or do will you be taking it easy?
Here is a little look at my life of late and a few of the sweet things making me smile...

HAPPY WEEKEND

I had every intention of blogging this week, but my photographic obligations had to take precedence. As my career grows I am finding it more and more difficult to post here five days a week. I hope you'll bear with me as I attempt this balancing act.
Any fun plans for the weekend? I have loads of photo editing to do, but instead of doing it at home like usual, I plan to hunker down at a coffee shop. I figure It might feel slightly more like a weekend if I'm surrounded by people. Wishing you all a beautiful weekend, whatever you do!
